1. When do you need oracle?
2. Licensing
Software is licensed in two main ways:
- Named User (NU) – concurrent number of users.
E.g. If a manufacturing plant has 200 employees and only 20 administrative people, then 20 NU licenses
- Processor (PR) – used when number of users cannot be determined.
E.g. Web application; or generally if NU>50
Most products have minimum requirements but please confirm with the licensing team if you’re not sure. For example, the minimum for Oracle Database Standard Edition Named User is 5 Named User licenses or 1 Processor. When licensing the “additional options”, the number of licenses must match the number of licenses in your associated server license (e.g. RAC option must match the number of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition licenses).
